Call for abstracts

APFCP 2027 invites the submission of original abstracts for presentation at the Congress. Accepted abstracts will be considered for oral presentation in the free-paper sessions or as a virtual poster. Access to the submission portal will appear on this page once it opens.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submission guidelines

  • A maximum of two abstracts per author will be accepted. Submissions are welcome from: colorectal surgeons; colorectal fellows; general surgery trainees; non-accredited registrars; medical students; interns / PGY2; and nurses.

    • Title should be brief and explicit.

    • Research papers should follow the format: Purpose, Methodology, Results, Conclusion.

    • Excluding the title, authors (full given name plus family name) and institution, your abstract must not exceed 250 words.

    • References, figures and tables are not required — please do not include them. Any that are included will be deleted prior to submission for review.

    • To be considered, you must submit your abstract via the abstract portal. Access to the submission portal will appear on this page when open.

  • Oral presentations
    Successful applicants are allocated five (5) minutes plus two (2) minutes for audience questions, within the free-paper sessions across the two-day program. Applicants are randomly allocated a date and time, which cannot be changed once set. All accepted verbal abstracts appear in the official Final Program. Presenters must register to attend and must present in person — virtual presentations will not be accepted.

    Poster presentations
    Applicants not selected for verbal presentation will be offered the option to present a virtual poster. All posters are displayed on a screen within the trade area, in 16:9 single-screen format. All poster presenters must register to attend APFCP 2027.

    1. The acceptance, timing, presentation and discussion of all papers are at the discretion of the Organising Committee.

    2. Abstracts must be submitted by the advertised closing date and time (AEDT). Late submissions will not be considered under any circumstance.

    3. A maximum of two (2) papers will be accepted from the same author.

    4. Case studies will not be considered under any circumstance.

    5. All formatting requirements must be adhered to.

    6. Any abstract exceeding the advertised word count will have the excess words deleted prior to review.

    7. Changes or re-submissions will not be considered after the close date.

    8. All submitted papers are reviewed by the Organising Committee after the submission process closes.

    9. Each abstract is reviewed on whether it: is original; addresses an important scientific question; is clearly written with all salient facts; adheres to ethical guidelines; shows evidence of statistical method where appropriate; and reaches conclusions justified by the results.

    10. Successful applicants are notified by email three months prior to the event.

    11. The allocation of date and time for verbal presentations is not negotiable.

    12. The submitting author is considered the presenter; requests to change presenters will not be considered.

    13. Authors wishing to withdraw an abstract from presentation or publication should notify the event manager.

    14. A completed APFCP 2027 registration must be submitted prior to the presentation date/time in order to present.

    15. Failure to complete this process results in an incomplete submission, and a certificate of presentation will not be issued.
